Picnicking is a popular past time in Iran on Friday, the Islamic day of rest. Several times a year my fellow teachers at Ebn Sina High School, in Kangavar, Iran, would picnic in the woods along a stream just outside of town, as pictured here in June 1970. Picnickers would bring one or more Persian carpets to sit on, much like we would spread out a blanket in America. While the entire region was quite arid, it was green along the few streams that flowed near town.
