This photo was taken during my training summer 2000 in Valmiera, Latvia. This photo shows the Latvian tradition of jumping over a fire for good luck throughout the next year on the shortest night of the year. Latvia celebrates the Summer Solstice as Ligo and Jani Day beginning the night of June 23. The tradition is to stay up all night, eat, drink, dance and sing with friends and family. Women often wear flower wreaths in their hair and men wear oak leaves.
