About 4pm nearly everday young Tuvaluan children would go out and try to catch land crabs for their families consumption. They were so quick and skillful at the task and now and again would let me have a hand at it, but seldom did I ever catch anything...never was fast or clever enough to catch the sneaky creatures. Land crabs were delicious cooked in cocounut cream and I loved the sound of "slurp" as we all sucked the meat out of the legs. My heart smiles whenever I see this picture since our house was in a bit of a low land we had lots of crab holes around our house and it was usual afternoon entertainment.
