Everyone in our family compound takes a turn pounding rice into flour to make pastries. It's hard work, but really fun. I took this picture at my host family's courtyard area and my host mother is sitting supervising while the neighbors all come to lend a hand. It's a bit like a working social function. After the flour is ready and hand-sifted about 10-15 women all gather to make the pastries by hand. And of course the sweets are shared with everyone.
