I'm a current Volunteer in South Africa (since July 2008). One of my primary projects this entire time has been an after-school Art Club with Grades 4-7 at one of our schools. Just this year I got some supplies for teaching the kids painting, color mixing, etc. We finally got the opportunity to do a mural (in May 2010) with some of the best learners from the Art Club because of the World Cup coming up. All supplies were donated by "Ulusaba - Richard Branson's Private Game Lodge", which is only a few kilometers from our school. The picture shows the completed mural with me standing with Floyd (grade 6) and Enock (grade 7) who have been the best performers in the Art Club. They helped with every part of the mural, from priming the wall, to drawing the grid, drawing the picture, painting, cleaning, EVERYTHING. Other Art Club members also helped as well as my wife and one other nearby Volunteer and some Volunteers from Ulusaba, but Floyd and Enock were the most instrumental from the school in completing the mural. It displays soccer players, vuvuzela players (highlighting the importance of the whole nations' participation in soccer matches), and their combined sound coming together to create the South African flag. On the far right is a tree with the hand prints of all the school's staff as well as all the Art Club members and the hands of the Ulusaba Volunteers and all of Grade R and Grade 1.
