During the summertime in Bulgaria people work very hard to grow and gather food in their fields and from the forest in order to can and consume throughout the winter. One such example is blueberries. Wild blueberries are abundant in the forests of the mountains in the month of August. It is very common for villagers to leave in the morning and return in the evening with kilograms of wild blueberries. They will spend the next couple days making jam and juice and boiling the jars in water for hours until it is preserved to consume in the winter. If you are lucky and pass by when they are cleaning them in the streets, you might just get a bowl for yourself.
