This photo was taken in early July 2013 at Miranda Memorial Primary School, in Uganda. The photo shows girls (and one boy!) from the school helping drill a well using the percussion-sludging manual borehole drilling technique known as Baptist Drilling. The students wanted to help drill the borehole, so they came during their break time and provided lots of "manpower". The young men that were doing the work can be seen resting on the stoop in the background with teachers and schoolboys. The drill operator in the foreground is the school chef. The well was completed at 18.5m (60.6 ft) deep and equipped with a low-cost Rope Pump to serve the the teachers dorms (in the background) and provide irrigation water for the school's vegetable garden. Another well at the school was upgraded with a India Mark III handpump as part of the SPA project.
