This photo was taken in June 2013, a water tank carried into Vanuatu. This 2 sq kilometer island has no source for water besides the erratically occurring rainfall collected in huge plastic tanks or cement wells. During one month last year it didn't rain at all. This tank arrived via cargo ship at 3 a.m. from the capital, Port Vila. It was unloaded directly into the water assuming the current would carry it to shore. It didn't so men and woman from the village jumped into the frigid, stormy Pacific Ocean in the dark, guiding it with their bodies. With only four hours of sleep, the villagers managed to set up this tank, two previous ones and the gutters.
