Thirty-five youth spent the summer of 2012 interviewing over fifty community elders who told their stories of the famine, living in prison camps, and the war. A partnership was developed with the local television station which allowed the youth to attend a five day film making camp. Partnerships were additionally developed with the local library, the Boykyschyna Museum and village culture departments who recruited the elders so this lost history could be documented before the elders passed. The youth then selected 20 of the elders and filmed interviews with them about these horrifying experiences. The youth acquired journalism skills, gained understanding and compassion for the elders in their villages. The elders finally got to share their stories. The project ended with a preview of the documentary. Sadly two of these villages had already passed.
