What is happening: The local construction foreman, Don Danilo, teaches students how to attach the eco-bricks to build the walls of their future classroom. Don Danilo passed away about 4 months after the project was completed. This type of building had never been constructed or even heard of in this part of the country.
The community came together to construct a classroom out of "eco-bricks" - plastic bottles filled with clean, inorganic trash. The community expressed a need for a new classroom for their seventh graders as well as an interest in addressing environmental awareness. Three different communities participated in school-wide recycling contests and recycling campaigns over the course of about 6 weeks. Close to 2,000 "eco-bricks" were collected. It was truly amazing to see this community/nearby communities in the region come together and use their resourcefulness and dedication to complete this project.
