This photo was taken October 19th, 2007 at the end of my service in Carata, Peru. It culminates a lengthy potable water renovation project, which would not have occurred if it wasn't for local support petitioned by our village to the municipality. During the renovation, SPA funds were granted to train individuals (in green shirts) in water sanitation. A microbiologist (in blue vest) provided the technical aspects of the training. Business and accounting skills were developed so that the new water committee could collect monthly dues from families and provide maintenance to the system. A nurse (in the white shirt) reinforced learning when teaching about the importance of hygiene and the use of clean water to prevent illness.
