This photo was taken during my best friend's baby naming ceremony in a local church in a fishing village in the Western Region of Ghana. The photo shows a line of women bringing the newborn child to the front to be dedicated and officially named. My best friend, whose child I was holding, is in front of me. She had invited me to attend the naming ceremony and surprisingly gave me the honor of holding her child during the ceremony. The photo shows myself (in the red dress) and the rest of the women and female children honoring the family and new child's life with singing and dancing. I did not know the photo had been taken until later, when the photographer had brought them to me to purchase. This photo captures one of the most special moments in my service. I loved this family and this child dearly.
This photo was taken by a local film photographer in the village where I served (Half Assini) in 2006.
