This photo was taken in Mozambique during one of my REDES meetings. REDES is a girls empowerment group in Peace Corps Mozambique that stands for Girls for the Development of Education and Health. I meet with my girls twice every week: once to discuss HIV/AIDS and other health issues in our community and once to learn a craft such as sewing or jewelry making. The idea of the group is to provide the girls with a safe, reliable location where they can grow into mature young women while learning how to take care of themselves. They also learn how to provide for themselves and their families through the income generation craft projects. This photo shows five of my girls singing together about not having shame to take an HIV test.
