On December 1st 2012, Peace Corps Cape Verde celebrated what would be its last AIDS Day in country as not soon after Peace Corps would announce its graduation from the country it has so loyally served since 1988.
In this photo, Volunteer Katherine Grace (Gracie) Magruder presents the results of an Edzi Toto-inspired AIDS Quiz with a local high school English class from Mindelo on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde.
Edzi Toto is a youth group from Malawi who are dedicated to the education and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Each youth earns their membership and badges after they are able to explain what HIV/AIDS means to them.
Peace Corps features a Edzi Toto quiz on its website which helps educate visitors on rates, statistics and myths about HIV/AIDS. Volunteer Magruder adapted this quiz to reflect surprising HIV/AIDS statistics about Cape Verde and her students were able to give their best guess in return for their own Edzi Toto badges (the World AIDS Day red ribbon).
