I took this photo in July 2011 at a summer camp for at-risk youth infected and affected by HIV in Ukraine. Camp OHALOW (Overcoming HIV And Leading Our World) is a week-long HIV leadership camp where kids aged 10-13 have an opportunity to experience traditional summer camp-- to play games, sing songs, do arts and crafts, and simply live as a typical kid for a week. Camp OHALOW gives kids the opportunity to learn more about managing their lives with HIV/AIDS while instilling in these children the confidence and leadership skills necessary to leave camp and continue a meaningful life through which they can contribute something positive to their villages. In this photo campers work together to design a banner that represents a Ukraine free from HIV. The banner was then displayed at a Ukrainian NGO, “All Ukrainian Network of People Living With HIV” to help raise awareness about HIV and Camp OHALOW.
