June 11, 2009, Algha, Kazakhstan. This was taken during a two week long "Friendship Bridge" summer camp organized by another volunteer. The camp included ten volunteers, ten local teachers, and one hundred 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students. In the mornings, volunteers and local teachers team taught English lessons. In the afternoons the students rotated between activity sessions such as crafts, baseball, games, theater, and photography. In the photography activity we had eight cheap digital cameras donated by our parents in the U.S. After some basic instruction, the students checked out the cameras in pairs and had to take portraits and landscapes, as well as complete a photo scavenger hunt. In this picture I'm showing the girls how to turn the flash off to save battery power.
