This is a picture of a simple poster made by a secondary school student who participated in a World AIDS Day parade in 2009, my first year in site in Cayalti, Peru. There were elaborate signs with tissue paper, paintings and glitter, but this sign caught my eye the most. In a larger site where STDs and AIDS are widely talked about and people are assumed to have AIDS if they are gay and are harshly discriminated, this simplicity of this girl's message stood out among the rest. Her message: "Don't discriminate against people with HIV"
