It always amazed me how good the kids were at entertaining themselves with what seemed like nothing, for hours on end. In this photo from 1991, my host brother Victor is making clay pellets with his cousin. They would scoop up clay soil, carefully mold the soil into little balls, and let them dry in the sun until they were firm enough to shoot with his slingshot. These guys were really good at hitting birds. If the birds were big enough, Victor's father would cook them over a fire and eat them.
