This picture was taken in September 2007 at the wedding of my neighbors Zenick and Marta in Zhovkva, a small town in Western Ukraine. After the church and town hall ceremonies, the couple threw an elaborate reception complete with dinner and dancing. One tradition is for the bride to dance with all the single women. By holding the veil over the single woman's head, the new bride hopes to bring the same luck she has had in finding a husband. Here, Marta is dancing with my host sister Natalya.
