Photo Description	These children are standing in front of Affem Kabye's "case de sante" (health hut). As you can see from the photo, the fence that is supposed to keep sheep and goats from entering the health hut is falling down, which means the village's volunteer health workers have to clean up the animal droppings every morning in the outdoor waiting area. Many of the ceiling panels have fallen down and those that have not fallen are about to fall. The health hut has 5 rooms including a "maternity" room with a cement bed covered with tiles. During deliveries that occur at night it is common to see bats flying around inside the health hut. The health hut does not have running water, electricity, a pump or a well. I was a Volunteer in a village called Affem Kabye in the Tchamba prefecture, Central Region, Togo. I was in a Safe Motherhood and Child Survival project.
