This photo was taken at the Kaedi lycee in southern Mauritania, in July 2007. The girls in the photo are participating in EcoHealth Camp, a week of activities organized by Peace Corps volunteers focused on health, AIDS, and environmental education, as well as sports and games. Because two girls from every village with a volunteer are invited, with chaperones, the girls meet, often for the first time, with girls from distant parts of their own country. The girls are making "Neem Creme", a mosquito repellent made out of the leaves of the neem tree. Oumrana, the girl stirring with her hand, is a black Moor from the south eastern Trarza region, the girl holding her arm, is a white moor from farther north.
