When you look closely at this picture, you will notice that the monk's robe is totally wet. For two hours prior to this photo everyone in the village was celebrating the Thai New Year (Songkran), which is April 13-15. During the celebration everyone is pouring water on each other, which is great because it is the hottest part of the year. It symbolizes the cleansing and preparation for the year to come. This picture was taken of Volunteer Carla Arnold in 2011. P.S. The water had ice cubes in it, so it was very cold!
