Photo Description	July 21 2008. This photo was taken just after I finished a health talk at the "casa materna" in the town of Los Chiles, Rio San Juan. A casa materna or "community-based birthing home" is a house maintained by the Ministry of Health or another organization that is located close to the health center in town. Women and girls go during their 37th week of pregnancy (or earlier if there is any risk factor present) to stay there to be able to give birth at the health center under a doctor's care, avoiding giving birth in their communities which may be many hours from the nearest health center.
