Photo Description	While serving in the village, Meri, in the Extreme North Region in Cameroon, I started a women’s soy farming group. The group consisted of some of the most dynamic women I knew in Village. To pass the time while we worked, they would teach me songs from church, in Mufu the local dialect. This picture was taken during la recolte, the harvest, of my first year of service, September 2009. We spent the day pulling the dried soy plants from the field. To attach the bundles together we used weeds as rope, which were growing in the field. They joked about making sure my bundle was not too big so I could handle it. It was the first (but not last) time I carried anything of substantial size on my head! I impressed everyone as I went marching through the village with the other women, carrying a big bundle of dried soy on my head! We walked about 3 km to get to my house.
