This photo shows my Uzbek host family, with whom I lived for all of my two years at site. In parts of Southern Kazakhstan there are many Uzbeks, who lived there long before the Soviets drew the current borders. From left to right: me, host mom, host brother-in-law, host sister, host dad, and host sisters. The family included (under one roof) grandparents, parents, an aunt, and five host sisters (ages 3 to 19). The bread on the table is home made in their wood fired oven and the fruit is home grown.
