This is just as the sun is hitting the tallest of the mountain tops. This was taken September 1990 at sunrise near Bandipur, Nepal, about mid-way along Nepal's Himalayas. The sun hits the highest points first, which is the Himals, then the valley later. This picture was taken at about 5,000 ft elevation--the Himals are roughly 28,000 feet tall, and about 40-50 miles away. You can see hills and clouds in the valley BELOW this location. When the clouds burn off later, you can see villages and rivers down below!
