In July 1973 I thanked Chief Mamady for the honor of serving as the 4th, 5th and 6th grade teacher in Kolila, Liberia for two years (above photo). We had a wonderful relationship because we started off right thanks to Peace Corps training. We were taught not to sleep one night in our village without greeting the Chief and asking his permission which I did. This photo also reminds me that we were both dressed in our finest at this last visit, a sign of honor and respect, which we both felt towards one another. He presented me with a stool with the carving of the Liberian flag. I gave him blankets for warmth.
