I wanted to bring home how much we take for granted. In Kolila, Liberia where I was the first Peace Corps Volunteer from 1971 to 1973 I learned that every one of my students (about 20 4th, 5th, and 6th graders) all had to wash their own laundry - a hike down to the river like Amos Kplaiwru (in this photo) did. Moreover, they had to wait for the clean clothes to dry on the rocks or risk their being stolen if they were left to dry! Not to be missed is how the mother in this picture took care of her baby while she washed her clothes.
