What a rush - to perform on the stage of the 2011 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Peace Corps. I was humbled by the talent of the group with whom I performed. Everyone of these young people, despite their odds of having grown up in orphanages and a few of them on the streets, honed their musical talent and made it here - on the stage of one of the largest folk festivals in the world. The first day I was so nervous I could hardly breath. But, I reminded myself that these kids trusted me enough to get on a plane and come halfway around the world to a country where they could not speak the language. I could trust them to help me in my debut performance from shower diva to stage singer - and they didn't disappoint!
