Photo taken on August 15, 1965 of the commemorative marble plaque mounted on the north tower of the Alliance Bridge at Zumbi, Ecuador and engraved with the words: Alliance for Progress Bridge, built by the inhabitants of Upper Nanguipa, Lower Nanguipa, Santa Barbara, Cuji, and Zumbi with the collaboration of Peace Corps Volunteers, Point IV, Grace & Co., Junta of Economic Recuperation of Loja and Zamora-Chinchipe, Municipality of Zamora, Fiscal Public Works of Zamora-Chinchipe, Franciscan Mission of Zamora, and Jungle Company No.15 "Zamora" (Ecuadorian Army unit). August 15,1964. The 407-ft suspension bridge over the Zamora River in the Amazonian rain forest was completed in 11 months with local volunteer labor, steel cable funded by the Point IV Program of the Alliance for Progress, hardware and cement funded by Municipality of Zamora, Food for Peace distributed by Franciscan Mission of Zamora, additional labor by Ecuadorian soldiers stationed nearby, and technical assistance, planning, and coordination by PCVs.
