PCVs Walter (volunteer stationed at Zumbi), Jim (Civil Engineer & bridge designer), and Dick (Mechanical Engineer) with some of the local people, who built the Alliance Bridge, on Inauguration Day, August 15, 1965. The 407-ft pedestrian suspension bridge over the Zamora River in the Amazonian rain forest was completed in 11 months with volunteer labor, steel cable funded by the Point IV Program of the Alliance for Progress, hardware and cement funded by the Municipality of Zamora, Food for Peace distributed by the Franciscan Mission of Zamora, additional labor by Jungle Company No. 15 of the Ecuadorian Army, and technical assistance, planning, and coordination by PCVs.
