A village on the west coast of Madagascar. It’s July 15th, 2011. I want to fetch water at the fountain. But, once again, the flow is slow and it’s taking forever. I had brought the Economist to read. But, J… is sorting the coffee, taking out the rocks and pieces of wood before she takes it to be shucked with the machine later on that afternoon. So, instead, I decide to help her. Next week, she’ll be done harvesting all the coffee on her land. Coffee season is almost over. It’s my turn to fetch. I’ve waited for a little over an hour. I’ll just go to the river to fetch the rest, despite the walk, despite the water being not as clean.
