This photo is taken of my wife, PCV Melinda Bothe, and myself with two Masai warriers. Our site of Kibaya, Tanzania has a high Masai concentration, so we get to attend some Masai events. This pictue was taken right before these men rejoined their fellow warriers in a jump and singing type of dance. Before the warriers perform their dance, they all enter the village in single file line chanting and humming to make a grand entrance. Each member in this 30+ person line takes a turn of leading the line holding a spear and this buffalo skin shield (that is pictured) and do this dance where they lunge with the spear and smack the ground with the shied while chanting. This photo was taken in the spring of 2011.
