Group photo of the trained village health team members holding their training certificates and wearing the VHT t-shirts. Trainings are held at the village level to alleviate the challenges faced by participants due to transport. This training was held at a primary school and you can see one of the children sneaked into the photo (bottom left). These VHT members are now trained to mobilize the community for health activities, keep household health records, and educate and sensitize the community on preventative health information, including topics of HIV/AIDS, malaria, diarrheal illnesses, pneumonia and child and maternal health. Each VHT Member monitors 25-30 homes. These are 33 of the 400 VHT members across 62 villages that we trained during service. This photo was taken in February 2010 in Bugoye village, Mukono District. I am on the left.
