This photo was taken in a village on the west coast of Madagascar, July 1st, 2011, at the Classe de CM1 at the EPP, the Public Primary School. It’s hard to teach and to learn with a class of almost one hundred students. 94, to be precise, were present that day. It’s hard to teach and learn when there aren’t enough books for every student, but rather five to ten children to a book. It’s hard to learn when there aren’t enough tables or benches, and that you are crammed. In other words, it’s not easy. At least, it’s a concrete building since 2000, thanks to the FID, and not a mix match of wood and tin falling apart as it is for the CP1 classroom.
