This is a photo I took March 15, 2009. It is a photo of a group of women potters in Sibrototi, Togo who met once a week under the mango tree to do a village savings a loan program. I taught health lessons during these meetings and for one of the lessons I taught them about solar cooking and had them make solar cookers out of clay and showed them how to insulate them with kapok fibers (a local tree that makes pods filled with fiber), wood and tin foil. Wood and charcoal is getting more expensive and harder to get in Northern Togo so I decided solar cooking would be a good way for these women to save money, make cooking safer, and protect the environment.
