I took this photo as some of contestants were rising from the Caribbean Sea post swimming portion of the Triathlon. Make no mistake, this was a grueling event. The ocean swim was first. Then came the running and bicycling events. Some of the participants were Peace Corps Volunteers who came from all over the island of Jamaica. We all had a great time and headed home to our respective work sites exhausted and happy to have seen what had been accomplished with some focused passion and shared resources.
BREDS is an organization established in 1998 by Peace Corps Volunteer Aaron Laufer and local community leaders. The funds raised during this amazing annual competition support several ongoing community projects. The missions that hold my heart are the ones that support early childhood development and parenting programs. The Treasure Beach Women’s Group actively participates. Actually, the entire community joins this affair in some fashion. 2012 marks year 14.
