Alyssa, a returned education Peace Corps Volunteer from Malawi, Africa, carried a twenty-liter bucket of water to her Malawi home, on April 1, 2011. Since Morley didn’t have running water, water had to be collected for bathing, drinking, washing dishes, laundry, and cooking.
“At the beginning it was really romantic to read by candlelight every night and to take water from a tap that’s almost a kilometer away,” Morley reflects on first arriving to Chakoma, Malawi. “I felt like I was connecting with a different sector of the population but after two years I am ready to have running water and electricity. I’m going to appreciate it a lot more when I go home.”
