I had the uncanny good luck of encountering these women very early in my PCV service and took this photo on 23 July 2007.
Good friends for years, they typified the strong networking relationships so necessary in a community struggling with major health and economic issues. These long term affiliations that support Peace Corps Volunteers in the countries we serve are vital to our safety and success.
They are the real resource that Americans need to truly understand Jamaican culture. They also disseminate information at an untraceable rate. If I had a question about some materials needed for a project in the Ewarton Health Centre on Monday, the answer came to me via a previously unmet fellow taxi rider in Linstead on Tuesday. I loved living in this area and credit the relationships with local community members for everything I accomplished.
