In the summer of 1972, I was inventorying the Middle Atlas cedar forests which included hiking to this remote village where we spent several nights. The two on the right of the picture are “city folk” whom I had brought with me from Rabat, while the three people on either side of me were locals from the village where we stayed whom I recruited to help with the work.
I completed service in 1973. Thirty-five years later, in 2008, I rejoined Peace Corps as Country Director in Burkina Faso and soon-to-be in Ukraine. I was the first among eight Peace Corps Volunteers, staff, and staff spouses in my family, spanning three generations.
