This photo was taken around the 4th of July at the Instituto Hondureno de la Ninez y la Familia (IHNFA) in Honduras. IHNFA is a government organization that serves children living in extreme poverty, and children of working mothers (under age 7). No one is sure of this little girl's name, but we call her "Abuela" (grandmother) because when she started coming here, abuela was the only word she could say. Since her arrival at IHNFA a few months ago, she has become quite the little chatter box and has come completely out of her shell. After teaching the kids about the 4th of July celebration in the United States and doing a fire-cracker craft project, I sat with the girls and painted all their nails with red, blue and glitter nail polish.
