USAID has teamed up with my coordinating NGO, World Vision, to promote and implement a new food security initiative throughout Honduras. Intibucá is one of the poorest departments of Honduras and the malnutrition rate among the Lencans, the local indigenous population, is tremendously high.
We traveled to one of the local Lencan villages and gave a charla (presentation) on new methods, including bio-intensive gardening and organic composting to prepare the land for planting corn and beans. This photo depicts the local families implementing these new methods and aerating the land before planting the corn.
