The men of this outer island in Yap State of the Federated States of Micronesia replace the palm frond thatch roofing on a traditional Micronesian house. Every family in the village of the house will weave and contribute at least ten pieces of thatch, and every able-bodied man and boy will help by removing the old thatch, throwing up the new thatch to those tying it into place or removing the old thatch, which is used to fill holes on the island's road and footpaths. The whole process, from start to finish, takes no more than an hour and a half. It is truly amazing to watch and even better to be a part of.
