This photo was taken in April of 2010 in a rural village in Morocco. I am in the center of the photo, and am surrounded by my host family siblings (from right) Hajiba, Raja and little Mohammed in the front. From the first day I met my family, the older girls had been asking if i knew how to make pizza. I had never actually made pizza from scratch before, but about four weeks into living with them we decided to try it. My sister on the far left, Hajiba, kneaded the dough by hand and made the crust, and the entire family helped to assemble the toppings. We made a vegetarian pizza and a chicken pizza (you can see the chicken cooking in the bottom center of the frame). Almost everyone SAID they liked the end result, but one of my younger sisters, Awatif, made it no secret that she thought the combination of tomato sauce and cheese was really gross. This is still one of my most favorite experiences of sharing my American culture with my family here.
