This photo was taken on June 10, 2011 at 4 a.m. The cow was purchased by the school committee and later killed in order to raise much needed funds for the local elementary school. More than $200 was made by selling the meat. Don Daniel and myself are pictured in the photo. After observing the grueling process of killing the cow I felt that it would be a good chance to show my community that I too could be useful in some way. I volunteered to help skin the cow with the support of Daniel. My neighbors that were gathered around enjoyed watching 'la morena' get down, dirty AND BLOODY! I'm sure they'll be talking about this for years to come. It was a great moment and definitely one of the things that has really defined my experience as a volunteer.
