I spent 3 hours negotiating to buy that basket that is in my arms in 1975. I went to Yemen that year as Associate PC Director. It was a great experience. After we finally made a deal, and a great friendship, the shopkeeper and some other bystanders gave me their congratulations.
Mokha is an old Red Sea port town in the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.
In the 18th century European nations developed a taste for the exotic coffee beans grown in the Yemeni mountains and shipped to Europe from this port....hence the name Mokha coffee was born.
