This photo was taken on June 9, 2007 in Bansko, Macedonia when the Little League baseball team from the village of Novo Selo traveled to play a game with the team from Bansko. The teams were coached by two Volunteers who wished to introduce the great American pastime to the kids and give the youths an organized after-school activity. All of the kids that participated had never seen a baseball or put on a glove, but they quickly picked up the sport. In the end, the program was about more than just learning a new sport; it was about putting aside cultural differences. Of course the kids learned about a piece of American culture, but they also learned about each other's cultures. The kids from Novo Selo were Macedonian, while the kids in Bansko were Turkish. But over the course of the season, they became friends nine innings at a time. This photo captures the enthusiasm for the game that brought the two groups together with the Bansko kids in the background cheering on their teammate as he bats against the Novo Selo side.
