Near the completion of my service, I was lucky to attend the funeral of the chief of Kpendua, the village in which I served in the Northern Region of Ghana. It took 5 years for the village to raise enough money to properly commemorate his death, but their wait was well worth it. As one of the "skin villages" or original villages of the Dagomba tribe, Kpendua welcomed over 2,000 villagers, chiefs, and elders from all over the region. This photo is of the regent chief of Kpendua, who presided over the loud, colorful, and unbelievable celebrations that involved about 4,000 Dagombas from the area.
