Photo Description	The newspaper article tells the complete story, but the date written on it, 1-18-67, must refer to the (CA) Ojai Valley News publication date rather than when the photo was taken, which was in late September, 1966, on my first day of assignment to Polangui General Comprehensive High School in Polangui, Albay, Philippines. In summary, when the car transporting me arrived at PGCHS, it was surrounded by students welcoming me to their school. I jumped out of the car and someone threw a lei around my neck. I wanted to say something in their language, but had forgotten it, so, to cover my embarrassment, I grabbed a placard and, as you can see, led the parade of students welcoming me to their school. That night, students regaled me with a program of Philippine singing and dancing. The tinikling was a local dance in which the dancers traditionally jumped between bamboo poles clapped together to the music. In my honor, it was a student's head which danced from below between the smashing bamboo poles. In Peace Corps annals, I believe, I had the most impressive first day ever!
