This is a photograph of myself, my host father (on the left), and the village chief on the right. The village chief was 86 years old, almost twice the life expectancy in Mali. I was the first Peace Corps volunteer in the village, and he was extremely proud to have the Peace Corps working in the village. His daughter lives in New York and he had me give my family her phone number. A close family relationship has developed since. Though he passed away shortly after my return to the States, I'm still in contact with his daughter. She even came to spend a week with me in Massachusetts.
